2020-2021:
During quarantine, I was thinking a lot about different forms of documentation and ideas of archivality. While many people were documenting the visual, my mind had been stuck on the aural. This curiosity for the audible was a catalyst for my exploration and recording of my environment around me. Since I had come back home to Chicago from San Francisco, I was thinking about the comfortable sounds of my family home that I was prone to take advantage of. The hums from an active kitchen, the murmuring of my family speaking one room over, the buzzing of the TV, dogs barking, etc. Our lives are so rich, and we are always immersed in sounds. Rarely do we traverse our lives in silence. My soundscapes are a documentation of these different sounds in my daily life with instrumental melodies that are made to match their mood, all combined to create a haptic environment. Each element recorded moves to elevate the other, work in conversation with each other, or push against one another. These pieces each explore the universality of the idea of home during this unique crisis we are all experiencing.
